What is a Cognitive Assessment?

A cognitive assessment is an evaluation of brain function. Cognition is the process by which the brain assembles information, learns, and understands how to perform many diverse tasks. Your brain helps you accomplish daily activities like driving a car, recognizing familiar places, and remembering a shopping list. There are many cognitive domains including, how you focus (Attention), remember (Memory), organize and plan (Executive Function), and recognize patterns (Spatial Memory). The domains work in synchronicity to help you perform your daily activities.

A baseline cognitive assessment helps you understand your current cognitive performance as compared to a peer group. It is helpful to obtain a baseline to assess your abilities in cognitive domains such as memory, learning, attention, and planning. Overtime, if you begin to experience difficulty with one or more cognitive domains, the Savonix Cognitive Assessment may help in identifying the specific areas contributing to those changes.

Why should I take a Cognitive Assessment?

As with discovering the diagnosis of diabetes or hypertension, it makes sense to prevent or delay the onset of an illness rather than treat it when it is already in progress. Prevention or delay of cognitive decline begins with regular measurement of cognitive function – much like we monitor our blood pressure to be alerted to small changes before a serious problem develops. With a simple assessment we can establish a cognitive baseline to establish the ability to then track any changes over time.

A baseline cognitive assessment helps you understand your current cognitive performance as compared to a peer group. Should you begin to experience challenges with one or more cognitive domains, the Savonix Cognitive Assessment would identify areas of the brain that may be contributing to the change in brain function.
